Valentine’s Day: A Day to Celebrate Love

Happy Valentine’s Day! If I could, I would send each of you a real rose or a piece of chocolate. But since that’s not possible, I’m sending you some “lovely” quotes instead. I like these quotes on love very much. I hope you like them too: IMG_1728

+ “Love is not an emotion. It is a policy.”  Hugh Bishop

+ “Unless you love someone, nothing makes sense.” W. H. Auden

+ “You do not have to do great things. Instead do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa

+  “Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.” Franklin Jones

+ “I am helpless before love. I could be bribed by a sardine.” St. Teresa of Avila

+ “Love is based on the belief in the reversibility of evil.” Thomas Merton

+ “Where there is no love, put love, and there will be love.” St. John of the Cross

+ “What we avert our eyes from today can be borne tomorrow when we have                  learned a little more about love.” Dorothy Day

+ “Engrave this upon your heart: There isn’t anyone you couldn’t love once you heard their story.” Anonymous

+ “Love one another as I have love you.” Jesus

Do any of these quotes touch your heart? Do you have any favorite quotes about love that you’d like to share with us?

  1. Sr Melannie, you are truly the coolest nun I know, and I’ve known many!! I love your blogs, they make me think and appreciate life!
Happy Valentine’s Day, or Dia de San Valentin as we say down here in Miami.
    Joan Campagna

  2. Clearly I’m not a saint, since I don’t think a sardine would be much of a bribe for me! However, I have really come to realize that “There isn’t anyone you couldn’t love once you heard their story.” I have learned this several times over the years and have come to change my opinion of people based on their “story” and I’ve come to have greater patience and appreciation for them.
Thank you for the love you show through your writing!

  3. I really enjoy your blog, Sr. Melannie. I am touched by the quote that there is nobody we could not love once we hear their story. How many times have I been held back from loving because I did not listen deeply enough or long enough? Thank you!

  4. Happy Valentine’s Day to you,too, Melannie!
What delightful gifts you chose to share with us today. Mother Teresa’s words give me courage because there are so many small things that fill my day. If I do them with love, they become gifts for others to enjoy.
    Thanks you!

  5. All that I need to know is that God IS Love and that perfect love casts out all fear.

Thanks for all the love you share through your writing.

  6. Dear Sr. Melannie,
I spent too much time combing thorough free e-cards trying to find just the right ones for several people — with no luck. Then I read your Feb. 14
blog and forwarded it to all of them! Thanks.

  7. This song popped into my mind while reading your blog today:
“love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay-
love isn’t love ’til you give it away”
But what song was it, what song ?
Looked it up – 16 Going On 17 from Sound of Music!
Happy Valentine’s Day. Thanks for your insights, Sr. Melanie.

  8. Hi Melanie
    Musical lyrics are my favorites…

“….the King of Love my Shepherd is whose goodness fails me never
…I nothing lack if I am His and He is mine forever.”

    (Psalm23;Matthew 18; John 10; Henry Williams Baker)

“…come and follow me….I love you and “YOU ARE MINE”

(David Haas was just at our parish a few Friday nights ago…we sang along with him…how cool was that…how blessed we are!)

    “See” you Monday!
    Marian

  9. Happy St. Valentine’s day to you also! You always have the right words to express our feelings! Aloha from Maui.

One thing I like about praying: anything goes. I didn’t always believe this. As a little girl, I thought praying was mostly something you did in church on Sundays, or something you did before eating supper, or you did kneeling beside your bed every night. I didn’t realize that anything
